Here’s the English translation:

*Imam Muslim*

Abul-Husayn Asakir al-Din Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj ibn Muslim al-Qushayri al-Naysaburi, known as Imam Muslim, belonged to the Qushayr tribe of the Arabs, a branch of the powerful Rabi‘a tribe. Very little is known about Muslim’s early life.

It is said that he was born in 202 AH / 817 CE and, after mastering general subjects at an early age, he focused on hadith. In its study he traveled to all the important centers of learning in Persia, Iraq, Syria, and Egypt.

He heard the discourses of most of the great traditionalists of his time, including Ishaq ibn Rahwayh, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, ‘Ubaydullah al-Qawariri, Shuwayh ibn Yunus, Abdullah ibn Maslama, and Hamala ibn Yahya. He settled in Nishapur, earned his livelihood from a small business, and dedicated the rest of his time to propagating the Sunnah of the Prophet.

He passed away in 261 AH / 874 CE. Like al-Bukhari, he also wrote several books and treatises on hadith and related subjects. Ibn al-Nadim mentions five of his books on this subject. Hajji Khalifa also adds the names of several other of his works on the same subject.

In his _Sahih_ he examined one-third of a million hadiths, out of which he selected only about 4,000 hadiths that all traditionalists unanimously considered authentic. He adopted a three-tier classification of hadiths.

After completing his _Sahih_, Imam Muslim presented it to the eminent traditionalist Abu Zur‘ah [of Rayy] for comments. Abu Zur‘ah studied it thoroughly, and Muslim removed everything that he deemed defective and retained only those hadiths which he declared authentic.

The _Sahih_ is considered the most authentic collection of hadiths after al-Bukhari and is regarded as superior to al-Bukhari in the details of its arrangement. Some traditionalists consider it superior to al-Bukhari’s work in every respect.

After Muslim, many other scholars also compiled _Sahih_ collections, including Ibn Khuzaymah [d. 311 AH / 923 CE], Abu Hatim Muhammad ibn Hibban [d. 354 AH / 965 CE], and others. However, none of these received the recognition and popularity that the Muslim community gave to the authentic works of al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Want me to do Imam Bukhari next to complete the six?
