*Hazrat Ilyas, peace be upon him*[Elijah]
And indeed, Ilyas was among the messengers. When he said to his people, “Will you not fear Allah? Do you call upon Baal and worship him, and abandon the best of creators — Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?” But they denied him, so they will surely be brought [to Hell] for punishment. Except for the chosen servants of Allah, who will not be subjected to punishment.
_“And We left his mention among later generations: Peace be upon Ilyas. Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good. Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.”_
He was sent to the inhabitants of the city of Baalbek, west of Damascus. He called them to Allah and told them to abandon the worship of their idol Baal.
Hazrat Ka‘b al-Ahbar says that Hazrat Ilyas hid from the king of his people and stayed concealed in a cave for ten years, until Allah the Exalted caused that king to die and another person became king. Then Hazrat Ilyas went to him and invited him to Islam. Among that people, many Muslims accepted Islam; only ten thousand individuals remained steadfast in disbelief.
