*Hazrat Khidr, peace be upon him*
It has already been mentioned regarding Hazrat Khidr that Musa traveled to acquire knowledge from him. His incident is described in Surah Al-Kahf.
Imam Bukhari narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: “He was named Khidr because once he sat on a white barren land, and when he rose, it was seen that the grass had turned green and was waving.”
In the well-known incident of Hazrat Musa’s journey, it is said that when Hazrat Musa, along with Yusha bin Nun, returned to the place of the lost fish, he saw Hazrat Khidr lying on a cloak upon the water of the sea. He had placed a cloth over himself, the edges of which were tucked under his feet. Musa greeted him with _salaam_. He removed the cloth from his face, replied to the greeting, and said, “Where is _salaam_ in this land? Who are you?” He said, “I am Musa.” He asked, “The Prophet of the Children of Israel?” He said, “Yes.” After that, the events took place which Allah the Exalted has mentioned in the Noble Qur’an.
From this incident, there are several proofs of Hazrat Khidr’s prophethood.
_“Then they found one of Our servants upon whom We had bestowed mercy from Us, and We had taught him knowledge from Our own.”_ [Surah Al-Kahf]
Musa said, “May I follow you so that you teach me some of the right guidance you have been taught?” Khidr said, “Indeed, you will not be able to have patience with me. And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?” Musa said, “If Allah wills, you will find me patient, and I will not disobey you in any matter.” Khidr said, “If you follow me, then do not ask me about anything until I myself mention it to you.”
There is disagreement on the issue of whether Hazrat Khidr is alive until today. Some scholars hold the view that he is alive. They say that Adam had prayed that whoever buries his body after the Flood, his life would be prolonged. This prayer was fulfilled for Hazrat Khidr. It is also said that he drank from the _Aab-e-Hayat_ [Water of Life], and thus he attained eternal life. In this regard, they present various narrations.
It has been established from hadith and noble verses that if all the prophets had been alive during the blessed era of the Prophet, they would all have been his followers and would have acted upon his law.
When the Messenger of Allah met the prophets on the Night of Mi‘raj, he was granted a station higher than all of them. And when they gathered on earth in Bait al-Maqdis and the time for prayer came, by Allah’s command Jibril instructed him to lead all of them in prayer.[Jerusalem]
