*Hazrat Shaya bin Amsiya, peace be upon him*[Isaiah son of Amoz]

Imam Muhammad bin Ishaq says that his era was before Hazrat Zakariya and Hazrat Yahya. He gave the glad tidings of Hazrat Isa and Hazrat Muhammad.

In his time, in the region of Bait al-Maqdis, Hizqiya was the king of the Children of Israel. He fully acted upon the guidance of Hazrat Shaya. At that time, the condition of the Children of Israel was otherwise sinful.[Hezekiah][Jerusalem]

An abscess appeared on the king’s foot, while the king of Babylon, Sennacherib, was advancing toward Bait al-Maqdis with his army. The people were very troubled. The king asked Hazrat Shaya, “Has Allah the Exalted sent any revelation to you regarding the army of Sennacherib?” He said, “No revelation has been sent yet.”

Finally, revelation came to Hazrat Shaya: “Tell the king to appoint his successor, because his time of death is near.” When you conveyed this message of Allah to the king, the king turned toward the qiblah, prayed, and supplicated. Allah the Exalted accepted his prayer and showed mercy. When he raised his head from prostration, Allah the Exalted sent revelation to Shaya: “Command the king to extract fig juice and apply it to his wound; he will be cured.”

Allah the Exalted sent death upon Sennacherib, so all of them perished except Sennacherib and five of his companions, one of whom was Bukht Nasr. The king of the Children of Israel sent soldiers, captured them, put collars around their necks, and paraded them in the city. Those people were given two loaves of bread daily, then they were thrown into prison.[Nebuchadnezzar]

Shaya, according to revelation, told the king to send them back to their homeland so they could tell their people what had happened to them. Seven years after that, Sennacherib died.

Imam Ibn Ishaq says: When the king of the Children of Israel died, their condition worsened. Evils spread greatly among them. Allah the Exalted sent revelation to Shaya. So he admonished his people, warned them of Allah’s reckoning, but when he finished his sermon, the people attacked him and intended to martyr him.

He fled. When he reached a tree, it split open. He entered inside it. Shaitan quickly grabbed the edge of his garment. When the split parts of the tree came together and hid the prophet, the edge of the garment remained outside. The people saw it, immediately brought a saw, and cut the tree into pieces. Along with it, the blessed body of Hazrat Shaya was also cut into two, and he was martyred.
