Here’s the English translation:
*Abdullah bin Saba*
Abdullah bin Saba, known as Ibn al-Sawda, was a Jew from the city of Sana'a and outwardly joined the Muslims. Staying in Medina, he deeply studied the internal and inherent weaknesses of the Muslims, and when he found the opportunity, he would rob the _dhimmis_. Presenting himself as a supporter and well-wisher of the Muslims and of the Prophet’s family, he began planting in people’s hearts seditious thoughts and beliefs suited to his schemes.
Then he began establishing those fools upon the belief that Hazrat Ali, may Allah ennoble his face, was the _Wasi_ of Hazrat Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.[successor]
Abdullah bin Saba had conceived all these plans and all the elements of his movement after careful thought in Medina Munawwarah, and had then come to Basra. Therefore, after that, Abdullah bin Saba deemed his stay in Basra no longer suitable. Leaving behind his most trusted confidants and partners-in-conspiracy, and giving appropriate plans and instructions to the group he had formed, he departed from Basra and came to the other Islamic military center, namely Kufa.
On the other hand, he had a deep personal enmity with Hazrat Uthman Ghani. Upon arriving in Kufa, Abdullah bin Saba very quickly impressed the people with his piety and asceticism.[feigned]
Consequently, Abdullah bin Saba left Kufa and headed toward Syria. When he reached Syria, i.e., Damascus, his efforts did not gain much traction there, and soon he was expelled from the city.
Here he organized a complete system for his secret society and made the expression of love for the Ahl al-Bayt and support for Ali the primary means of success.
From Egypt, Kufa, and Basra, letters began continuously reaching the people of Medina complaining about the officials there, saying that the governor here has set about committing great oppression. Since in no place were the officials and governors actually oppressing the subjects, people in each place thought that more oppression, violence, and injustice was being inflicted on all the other provinces than on themselves.
