Here’s the English translation:
*History of the Quraysh Tribe*
The inhabitants of the land of Arabia are descendants of Sam, the son of Prophet Nuh, peace be upon him. Because of this lineage, they are called the Semitic race. In terms of tribes, they have two major branches:[Noah]
1. *Banu Qahtan* – Initially, they lived in Yemen. When the famous flood occurred in Yemen, known as the _Sayl al-Arim_, they left Yemen and came to settle in Medina.
2. *Banu Ismail* – Their settlements were in the vicinity of the holy Hijaz and Najd.
Both these tribes, Qahtan and Ismail, were civilized tribes in ancient times when the rays of civilization were first emerging in the world — especially the Ismailites, among whom prophets and messengers appeared one after another.
In the ninth generation from Adnan was Fihr, who became known by the title _Quraysh_. In Arabic, _Quraysh_ is the name of a fish that swallows all other fish. Because Fihr bin Malik was a very great chief of his time, before whom other chiefs had no standing, he was likened to this fish, and he became famous as Quraysh. His descendants are called Qurayshi.
A hundred years before Islam, the occupation of the Quraysh was trade — and not trade on an ordinary scale. A single individual from the Quraysh would lend thousands of dirhams to others. Ibn Nadim wrote: "I saw a document in the library of Amir al-Mu'minin al-Rashid Abbasi, which was written in the hand of the Caliph’s ancestor, His Excellency Abdul Muttalib bin Hashim."
At the time of the advent of Islam, among the Quraysh there were both the harshest of disbelievers, and those who left no stone unturned in enmity toward Islam and the Prophet, peace be upon him. And there were also those who made every kind of sacrifice and risked their lives in service to Islam and the Noble Prophet.
