Here’s the English translation:
*Imam al-Darimi*
Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman [181–255 AH / 797–868 CE] was a member of the Arab tribe of Banu Darim, a branch of the Tamim tribe. When he was offered the post of judge in Samarkand, he refused out of fear of committing injustice, until great pressure was placed on him. He resigned after deciding only one case.
Al-Darimi’s _Sunan_ is described as a _Musnad_ work containing about 3,550 traditions, arranged into 1,408 chapters according to subject. A special feature of this book is its general introductory chapter in which the compiler presents many hadiths relating to various matters, including some customs of the Arabs before Islam and traditions connected with the life and character of the Prophet.
