Here’s the English translation:

*Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him*

It is the statement of many great Muslim scholars that there are five Rightly Guided Caliphs: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, and Umar bin Abdul Aziz.

Umar bin Abdul Aziz was born in 62 AH. His mother was the granddaughter of Hazrat Farooq-e-Azam [Umar ibn al-Khattab]. In childhood, a horse kicked him, leaving a scar from the wound on his face. The early part of his life was spent in the company of the jurists of Medina. Anas narrated that after the Prophet, peace be upon him, we did not pray behind anyone whose prayer resembled the Prophet’s prayer except Umar bin Abdul Aziz.

After becoming Caliph, he adopted a completely ascetic lifestyle in food and clothing. From 82 AH to 93 AH he served as the governor of Medina, and performed Hajj in the capacity of _Amir al-Hajj_.

When Walid intended to appoint his brother Sulayman as heir apparent, the first person who openly and forcefully opposed Walid’s intention was Umar bin Abdul Aziz.

Sulayman bin Abdul Malik had written: "After myself I have appointed you, and after you Yazid bin Abdul Malik, as heir apparent to the Caliphate." Upon hearing this decree, Hisham bin Abdul Malik said, "We will not pledge allegiance to Umar bin Abdul Aziz." Hisham bin Abdul Malik came and pledged allegiance. After Hisham, everyone pledged allegiance.

After that, Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz led the funeral prayer for Sulayman bin Abdul Malik. After the pledge of allegiance to the Caliphate, Umar bin Abdul Aziz addressed the people with a speech, which was as follows: [After praise and glorification of Allah]

"People, after the Noble Qur’an there is no book, and after the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, there is no prophet. I am not an innovator but a follower. I am not a creator of practices but a completer. I am not better than you in any way; rather, my burden is far greater. The one who flees from an unjust king cannot himself be a tyrant. Remember, obedience to any creature is not permissible if it is against the commands of Allah. I wish, before my record of deeds is written and I am called to account, that I deliver to every rightful person his due. The burden of the Ummah of Muhammad has been placed upon my neck."

Let me know if you want the Arabic terms explained or sources for the speech.
