*Hazrat Yaqub (Peace be upon him) – Part 2*

Allah Ta‘ala removed Layya’s hardship, for He granted her several sons. From Yaqub, her first son Reuben was born, then Simeon, then Levi, then Judah. Then Rachel felt jealous because she was not having children. She gifted her maidservant Bilhah to Yaqub. He was intimate with her, so she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, whom she named Dan. After that another son was born; his name was kept Naphtali. Then Layya also gifted her maidservant Zilpah. From her two sons, Gad and Asher, were born to you. Then Layya had a fifth son; she named him Issachar. After that her sixth son was born; his name was kept Zebulun. After that a daughter, Dinah, was born to her. In this way, seven children of Hazrat Yaqub were born from her. After that Rachel prayed to Allah Ta‘ala that He grant her a son from Hazrat Yaqub. Allah Ta‘ala accepted her prayer, and from Hazrat Yaqub a great and beautiful son was born to her, whom she named Yusuf.[Yaqub]

Hazrat Yaqub requested his maternal uncle Laban to let him go to his home. His uncle said, “I have received blessings because of you, so ask for whatever you want from my wealth.” You said, “Give me from the goats those kids born this year that are speckled; and from the sheep, the lamb that is white but also has black in its color, and that which is black but also has white in it; and from the goats, those that are striped and white.” He said, “Alright.” His sons separated out goats of that kind from their own flocks so that no lamb of that sort would be born, and taking them, they went three days’ journey away from your flock.[Yaqub]

Hazrat Yaqub took fresh branches of almond and poplar and peeled them, making them white in places here and there. He would set them up in front of the sheep and goats at their watering places so that the goats would see them and feel fear, and their kids would stir in their wombs — so that the color of those kids would also become speckled like that.

When Hazrat Yaqub approached the land of Seir, the angels welcomed you. Hazrat Yaqub sent people to his brother Esau, and he was coming to meet him with kindness and compassion, with 400 horsemen.[Esau]
