*Hazrat Yusha bin Nun*[Joshua, son of Nun]

The prophethood of Hazrat Yusha bin Nun is accepted by the People of the Book as something clearly established. The Samaritan sect of Jews does not believe in the prophethood of any prophet after Hazrat Musa except Yusha bin Nun, because the mention of his prophethood is clearly present in the Torah. They deny other prophets, although they too were true prophets. May Allah’s curse be upon them until the Day of Judgment.

Hafiz Ibn Jarir and other commentators have quoted from Imam Muhammad bin Ishaq that in the last days of Hazrat Musa’s blessed life, the prophethood of Hazrat Musa was transferred to Hazrat Yusha. Accordingly, Hazrat Musa would meet Hazrat Yusha and ask him about the newly revealed commands.

One day Hazrat Yusha said, “Musa, I never used to ask you about the revelation that came to you — you would tell me of your own accord.” At that time Musa grew weary of life and his heart desired death. But this narration is not sound, because revelation and the descent of religious laws upon Musa continued until his death, and he continued to have the honor of speaking with Allah the Exalted.

Scholars state that his siege continued past Asr on Friday. The sun was nearing sunset and the Sabbath was about to begin, the observance of which had by then become obligatory upon them. At that moment, Yusha said to the sun, “You too are bound by command and I too am bound by command. O Allah, hold it back from setting.” Allah the Exalted stopped the sun until he conquered his city. And Allah commanded the moon, and it rose and stood still.

It appears that this was the first month. The incident of the sun being held back is present in hadith and will be mentioned soon. As for the mention of the moon, it is found only with the People of the Book, but in any case it does not contradict the hadith.
