*Hazrat Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) – Part 5*
When Hazrat Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) saw persistent denial and insistence upon disbelief from his people in every way, he despaired and decided to migrate. Allah Ta‘ala says: _So Lut believed in him, and Ibrahim said, “Indeed, I will emigrate to my Lord. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqub, and placed prophethood and the Book among his descendants. And We gave him his reward in this world, and indeed, he is in the Hereafter among the righteous. And We saved Ibrahim and Lut to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. And We made Ibrahim righteous and made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us._
Hazrat Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) prepared to separate from his people for the pleasure of Allah. Your respected wife had no children at that time, so you had no offspring. Rather, with you was your nephew, Hazrat Lut bin Haran bin Azar. Later, Allah Ta‘ala also granted you righteous children. Prophethood and the Book were decreed in your progeny — that is, every prophet sent after you was from your descendants, and every book revealed after you was revealed to someone from your lineage. This was a reward for you from Allah because for His pleasure you had left your homeland, family, and tribe, and migrated to a place where you could worship your Lord and call people to Him.
The People of the Book say that Hazrat Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) prayed to Allah Ta‘ala for righteous offspring, and Allah gave you good news of it. When Hazrat Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) had lived in Bait-ul-Muqaddas for 20 years, Sarah (Peace be upon her) said to Ibrahim (Peace be upon him), “The Lord has kept me childless. Go to my maidservant Hajar (Peace be upon her); perhaps Allah Ta‘ala will grant you offspring through her.” When she gave Hajar (Peace be upon her) to Ibrahim (Peace be upon him), Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) went to her and she became pregnant.
The People of the Book say that when she became pregnant, she began to look down on her mistress. Hazrat Sarah (Peace be upon her) was displeased and complained to Hazrat Ibrahim (Peace be upon him). He said, “You may do as you wish.” Hazrat Hajar (Peace be upon her) became very afraid and ran away to a spring. An angel met her there and said, “Do not fear. The son who will be born to you — Allah Ta‘ala will grant much good and blessing through him.” He ordered her to return and gave her good news that she would have a son and she should name him Isma‘il. He will be a free man. His hand will be against all, and all hands will be against him, and he will be master over all the lands of his brothers. Hajar (Peace be upon her) thanked Allah for that.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas narrates that the first woman to use a waistband was the mother of Isma‘il (Peace be upon him). She used a waistband so that her traces would remain hidden from Sarah (Peace be upon her). Later, Hazrat Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) took her and her nursing son Isma‘il (Peace be upon him) and settled them near the House of Allah, at the upper part of the valley, above Zamzam, near a large tree. At that time no human lived in Makkah, and there was no water there. You left them there, placed with them a bag of dates and a waterskin of water, then Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) set off to return.
The mother of Isma‘il (Peace be upon him) followed behind him and said, “O Ibrahim, where are you going, leaving us in this barren valley? There is no companion here, nor anything of need.” She said this several times, but you did not turn to her. Then she said, “Did Allah command you to do this?” He said, “Yes.” She said, “Then He will not let us perish.”
Suddenly she saw an angel standing at the place of Zamzam. That angel struck the ground with his heel or with his wing, and water gushed forth.
