Hazrat Nuh (Peace be upon him) – Part 1
His Lineage:
His lineage is as follows: Nuh bin Lamak bin Matushalakh bin
Khunukh bin Idris bin Shith bin Adam.
According to the statement of Ibn Jarir and others, his birth took
place 126 years after the passing of Hazrat Adam (Peace be upon him). According
to the chronology of the People of the Book, there was a gap of 146 years
between the birth of Nuh (Peace be upon him) and the death of Adam (Peace be
upon him).
And in Sahih Ibn Hibban it is mentioned that between them there
were 10 generations - meaning 10 centuries or 10 lineages. As narrated from
Hazrat Abu Umamah: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him), “Was Adam a prophet?” The Prophet said, “Yes, he was spoken
to.” He asked, “What was the time span between him and Nuh?” The Prophet (Peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “10 generations.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas. He said: Between
Adam and Nuh there were 10 generations, and they were all upon Islam.
_We sent Nuh to his people, and he said to them: “O my people,
worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. I fear for you the punishment
of a great day.”
_The chiefs of his people said: “Indeed, we see you in clear
error.”
_He said: “O my people, there is no error in me at all, but I am a
messenger from the Lord of the worlds. I convey to you the messages of my Lord
and I am your sincere adviser. And I know from Allah what you do not know. Do
you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man
from among you, that he may warn you and that you may become righteous and that
you may receive mercy?”
_But they denied him, so We saved Nuh and those who were with him
in the ship, and We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a
blind people.
